IE 8 is slow

Internet Explorer 8 is really really slow. This surprises me because Microsoft has been making a lot of noise about its speed.

Rendering is fine, as far as I can tell. But they don’t seem to have gotten the UI right. Opening a new tab, hitting ctrl-e to get to the search bar, opening the menu, it’s all very slow. On the other hand, I’ve been trying Google Chrome for about 30 seconds now, and it’s sort of neat.
